The idea of Elbląg Spring Theatre was born in middle 80’s when Stanisław Tym was the Director. The Department of Culture and Arts of the Provincial Office in Elbląg was the coorganiser of the project, which was realised in the third decade of April 1985. It was a huge cultural event that attracted crowds of spectators. Elbląg audience could see well-known and popular actors from the best Polish theatres, known also from many films. During the 1st historic Elbląg Spring Theatre on the Drama Theater stage you could enjoy the craft of acting of such actors as Ewa Dałkowska, Zbigniew Zapasiewicz, Krzysztof Chamiec, Witold Pyrkosz, Jerzy Turek and Jan Świderski. Despite the success of the first six editions of Elbląg Spring Theatre, it was “suspended” for several years.
In 2008, thanks to the Director Mirosław Siedler, Aleksander Sewruk Theatre returned to this excellent, exquisite tradition and reactivated this so important for Elbląg cultural life event. So, in 2008 the 7th Elbląg Spring Theatre was held. Since then, the “Spring” takes place on stage of the Sewruk Theatre annually. Each time the formula of the Festival is enriched with new forms of stage expression – music plays a significant role in the repertoire. Confirmation of this may be recitals of great artists – “Atramentowa” by Stanisława Celińska and “Hits of operas, operettas and musicals” by the world famous mezzosoprano Małgorzata Walewska.
