TUWIM BEZ CENZURY
Author: Julian Tuwim • Director: Andrzej Ozga • Opening night: 13-09-2014
Supposedly we all know the works of Julian Tuwim but mainly those for children. We know, because of educational requirements, “Kwiaty polskie” but other texts of the poet, those more ripe and satiric, are a bit passed over in silence. Sarcastic approach was the key feature of substantial part of his works, especially those from the interwar period. These were the times of “Pikador” (a literary café, of which he was the co-founder), “Qui Pro Quo”, “Czarny Kot” (Black cat) and other Warsaw cabarets. It was also the time of “Skamander” – a poetic group founded by Julian Tuwim, Antoni Słonimski, Jan Lechoń, Kazimierz Wierzyński and Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz.
Tuwim mocked at backwardness and criticised political reality. He had no resistance to using ripe words, among which “ass” (sic!) was the least dirty. However, Polish language did not suffer because of these procedures.
We present you Julian Tuwim from the rebellious side – “Tuwim uncensored” on the small music scene. Direction by Andrzej Ozga, stage design by Tatiana Kwiatkowska.
